Returning old passports?

100 Posts

I have just done hubbys and my own passport renewal online. I was going to send them back to the passport office in the same envelope. We live across the water from the Bootle office, this was my return address , but hubbys came in for Northampton!

Does anyone know if I can send them both to Liverpool as long as the PEX number is on both applications?

Thanks in advance.

His application may have been allocated to Peterborough so he needs to send his passport there.

Indeed. Don't try to muck about with it. Could end in tears.
It would also help to send them separately and get a certificate of posting for each.
If each came with a different address for processing then it's that office that will be waiting for the final paperwork. If you send it elsewhere they will have to send it on at some point delaying the process

viral kindness . kindness is contageous pass it on

It really makes not difference what office you send them to, but put them in separate envelopes each with the correct PEX number (don't get them mixed up) and put them both in a strong jiffy envelope. They get opened and scanned on to the system, then examiners working in remote locations pick them up from the queue. Its all done digitally until the process has been completed, the a message to the processing centre is sent for you old passports to be physically cancelled (corners cut) and returned to you.

I phoned the Passport office number and asked if I could send both back to the Bootle Office as it's our local office. The operator said it was ok as long as they were in separate envelopes with the PEX number on them

I am going to write what was said by the operator on hubbys envelope as well as the PEX number.

Thanks for your inputs , it's appreciated. If the thread is still open when the passports are returned I'll post and update as it may help others.

Small update, just posted the passports. P.O saw the address and said we always recommend special delivery for passports. This cost £6.85. If we had to pay that twice it's a lot along with cost of photos and the passports themselves.

Doesn’t say much for their service if they are recommending secure delivery for an expired passport. They are basically saying don’t send normal post as it will get lost in the post 🙄

Hi,the passports aren't expired. They actually run until May 23 as last time I had the extra months applied. The actual date is Oct 22 , but as we've left the EU they will only accept passports that are 10 years old and with a minimum of 6 months remaining. We're not sure if we are going away this year. Haven't been for a couple of years for obvious reasons so thought we'd better get the passports sorted.

Guess what it hasn't been delivered yet. It said 'at Warrington MC', to be delivered today that was yesterday. The tracking page hasn't changed and when I try to refresh capcha box come up and even after doing the tick box another capcha come up. I'm a bit worried as I looked for the phone number and there's loads of people saying they sent there's by special delivery and it's still not been delivered after weeks. Can't get a direct number, just an 0345. I'm on hold now 20 mins and counting.

If RM tracking shows it hasn't been delivered next day - claim back your special delivery fee - they can't guarantee a service and not deliver when they say they would.
